For the last decade, BioWare has been shy about sharing details from the next Dragon Age game—until now.

In early June, the company revealed the first trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, previously titled Dreadwolf, and then released a 20:22 gameplay trailer two days later. We’ve met Rook, the new protagonist for the game, reunited with returning characters Lace Harding and Varric Tethras, and met six brand new companions, all associated with specific factions—which will impact each player’s options and choices from the jump.

For Nintendo fans, 2024 is truly the Year of the Princesses.

In March, the video game giant released Princess Peach: Showtime!, the golden-haired princess’s first solo title since 2005 and only her third in her 39 years of gameplay. Then during its June Direct, Nintendo surprised fans with a new installment in The Legend of Zelda franchise—and this time, it’s Princess Zelda herself who has to save Hyrule after her friend and guardian Link is sucked into a magical vortex.

Adventure Time may have ended in 2018, but the franchise is still going strong. Its adults-only Max spinoff Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake has been renewed for a second season and Cartoon Network Studios announced on June 12 that it’s developing three new Adventure Time projects, including an animated feature film from Distant Lands showrunner Adam Muto, Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe), and Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall).

In addition to the new movie, we can also look forward to two kid-oriented Adventure Time animated spinoff series. The first, Adventure Time: Side Quests, follows Finn in his childhood as he dreams of doing the kinds of things his older self will do all the time with his BFF, Jake the Dog. The second, Adventure Time: Heyo BMO, is a preschool series that follows the eponymous video game console as he moves to a new neighborhood and faces new challenges with new friends.

BioWare and EA Games have finally announced the release window for the fourth installment in the Dragon Age video game series, The Veilguard, which follows nine years after the events in Inquisition. Before the game launches later this year, fans are debating the worth of playing or replaying the first three games in the series.

Technically, The Veilguard can be played as a standalone story—but it continues world-building that began in previous games and showcases several returning characters.

Earlier this week, BioWare and EA Games released a flood of information about the next Dragon Age game, The Veilguard, coming in fall 2024, and fans are eating up every last morsel after a decade of minimal teasers. With that, of course, comes the dreaded Discourse.

This time, that has particularly been about the news that every companion in The Veilguard will be romanceable—regardless of the player character’s gender. In an interview with IGN, The Veilguard director Corinne Busche confirmed that all of the companions in this game are pansexual, but not “playersexual”—i.e., they aren’t specifically attracted to the player.

Dragon Age fans are finally eating well after years of begging for scraps from BioWare and EA Games. The fourth installment in the series, previously entitled Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, has been retitled to The Veilguard and is slated for release in the fall. Yes, fall of this year. 2024. Hallelujah!

It’s been a decade since Dragon Age: Inquisition won millions of hearts and multiple accolades including the Game Award for Game of the Year, and that timeline is reflected in The Veilguard. The story takes place nine years after the events in the Inquisition DLC story Trespasser, and Solas—the ancient elven god known as the Dreadwolf—is trying to tear down the barrier between the mortal world and the Fade (spirit world), leaving the player and their companions to stop him before he unleashes a maelstrom of demons upon the world and kills untold numbers of innocent people.

However, her simultaneous confirmation of a romantic relationship with former professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris has resurfaced accusations of cheating that surfaced last fall, creating a truly divisive conversation. In her essay for Glamour, Bush explains how she considered calling off her wedding to her now ex-husband, entrepreneur Grant Hughes, in April of 2022, but instead “doubled down on being a model wife.”

In 2023, author/illustrator Maia Kobabe’s graphic memoir Gender Queer was the most-banned book in the U.S. Part memoir, part guide to understanding gender and sexuality, Kobabe started the book as a means of explaining what it means to be nonbinary and asexual to eir family.

It’s since become an award-winning, adored graphic novel. Despite the ALA reporting 106 challenges against Gender Queer in 2023, Kobabe has remained an outspoken advocate for trans rights and the freedom to read. And now, thanks to Listening Library, readers will have a whole new way to access Gender Queer. In May, it will release a full-cast audiobook production of the graphic novel, featuring Kobabe reading as emself. Joining em is eir sibling Phoebe Kobabe, André Santana, Jeremy Carlisle Parker, Stephen Graybill, and Trini Alvarado (who played Meg March in 1993’s Little Women).

That’s the case for psychic teenager Rowan Sterling, the protagonist of the upcoming graphic novel The Harrowing from Abrams imprint Fanfare. Illustrated by comics veteran Rye Hickman and written by comics newcomer Kristen Kiesling, The Harrowing examines “right” and “wrong” through a thriller lens with horror elements.

Since The Lightning Thief was published in 2005, Riordan has written dozens of books in the Percy Jackson universe, which is vast and full all kinds of monsters and gods—and just like any book series, some titles are better, more interesting reads than others. On the eve of The Lightning Thief’s 20th anniversary next year, a new installment in the franchise entitled The Wrath of the Triple Goddess will hit shelves in September. It’s the seventh book in the original PJO book series, and it follows Percy, Annabeth, and Grover in their senior year of high school.

Adapted from the Bethesda Softworks flagship video game series, the Fallout TV series will take place chronologically after all of the video games to date, meaning a new cast of characters and new horrors in an irradiated world.

If you want to get a jump on Fallout content before the series premiere, you can dive into the video games themselves, each of which takes place in a different city. However, playing them in release order won’t give you the real timeline of events. The best way to play the Fallout games is in story order, which we’ve laid out below.

The trio kidnap Liz from her bed and Courtney gags her with a jawbreaker so she can’t scream—which, combined with the duct tape put over Liz’s face, leads her to suffocate in the trunk of Courtney’s car.

Whatever your feelings about AI in the present day, in some future worlds, it’s an integral component of everyday life. In the beloved Hugo- and Nebula Award-winning Murderbot Diaries series, written by sci-fi author Martha Wells (and coming soon to Apple TV+), existential questions about AI are formed by a part-robot, part-human Security Unit (SecUnit) designed by the all-encroaching GrayCris Corporation.

Although SecUnits are supposed to follow their programming in all instances, some have been hacked or modified, which allows them to not only behave independently but to enjoy things and feel emotions. The SecUnit protagonist in Murderbot—the name it chooses both because it resents humans and it’s built to be a flawless killing machine—seeks to understand if it murdered a human and along the way begins to form relationships and seek a new understanding of its existence. All the while, it hides from the company to keep from being reset to its former self.

Comic-Con International has officially opened voting for this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, one of the highest honors in the business. Unfortunately for comics journalists and comics-focused publications, this year’s ballot doesn’t include the ‘Comics-Related Periodical/Journalism’ category.

This decision sparked a lot of conversation on social media last week, with creators like David Pepose and John Trumbull decrying it and others claiming it’s a sign that comics are dying. We’ve heard the latter for years, usually from those in the Comicsgate hate movement, whose primary goal seems to be targeting diverse comics creators whose work goes beyond telling stories about white, heterosexual, male superheroes.
