When the issue was brought up, Donald Trump tried to backpedal on his anti-abortion history after having spent two years bragging that he’s responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade. At the same time, he pushed a number of disgusting, completely false anti-abortion talking points. Making things even worse, the moderators made no attempt to fact-check in any way, just letting Trump’s lies run wild. Even worse yet, in Biden’s tepid attempt to push back, he used gross, misleading anti-abortion terminology that have no purpose but to rile people up with misinformation.

After seeing Trump wriggle his way out of accountability time after time, a jury has handed down a verdict declaring Trump GUILTY on all 34 charges related to the case. Back in December, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump could be excluded from the primary ballot thanks to Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which says an elected official who has taken an oath to support the Constitution cannot engage in insurrection (e.g. encouraging his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol to overtun the results of an election) and then return to office.

Trump has been sitting out the debates from the start, claiming he doesn’t need to participate given his enormous lead in the polls. As terrifying and infuriating as it is, he’s not wrong. He cleaned house in Iowa and didn’t need to step on a debate stage once.

Why was Vivek not in Wednesday’s debate?

Ramaswamy didn’t qualify for Wednesday’s debate due to his embarrassingly low polling numbers. (CNN’s threshold required candidates to rank above 10% in three separate polls, while Ramaswamy hovers around 6%.) But in the ad, which was also released online Wednesday afternoon and slated to air in markets around Iowa during the debate, the failing candidate claimed his exclusion was an attempt at censorship, rattling off a long list of conspiracy theories he says “they” just don’t want audiences to hear.

The next Republican debate will take place this Wednesday, January at 9 pm ET/8 Central on CNN. The moderators will be CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, meaning we’ll still no doubt be subjected to plenty of the candidates’ vile opinions but at least we’ll likely be spared moments of aggressive bigotry from the hosts like we saw from Megyn Kelly last month.

A number of states have tried to cut off abortion access not just within their own borders, but by attempting to prohibit residents from traveling out-of-state for necessary healthcare procedures. Republican lawmakers in Missouri, Texas, and Tennessee have introduced bills aiming to put restrictions on people traveling between states for abortion. Idaho passed an “abortion trafficking” ban (which is being challenged in the court system), prohibiting anyone from obtaining abortion medication for a minor or from helping them leave the state to get an abortion.
