The new Netflix film The Imaginary, from director Yoshiyuki Momose and written by Yoshiaki Nishimura, shines a light on imaginary friends.

While not the most original concept in 2024 (being the third movie about imaginary friends this year), what makes The Imaginary stand out is its message about growing up. It is a visually stunning ride as Rudger (Louie Rudge-Buchanan) tries to save his friend Amanda (Evie Kiszel), but the darkness comes from Mr. Bunting (Jeremy Swift) using his imaginary friend to hurt others. Mr. Bunting is an adult who never wanted to give up his childhood friend, and while Amanda created Rudger out of the grief of losing her father, Mr. Bunting represents what happens when you refuse to grow up.

Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict was a city without order and rightfully so. The protests following the verdict were for the injustice served to King, who was a victim of police brutality, and 1992 is a new movie exploring the landscape of that time in Los Angeles.

It will mark one of actor Ray Liotta’s last movies, and 1992 is split seemingly between two storylines that are going to converge. It has a father and a son trying to make a better life for themselves, and then it also shows a group of white men capitalizing on the civil unrest in the city at the time for their own personal gain.

On The Acolyte, we’re seeing the Jedi when they are (arguably) at their strongest in Star Wars and … it certainly is something. We’re seeing how their strict rules restrict them from doing the work they need to, and well, it means there is really only one good Jedi among them.

In episode 6 “Teach/Corrupt,” we get to see a story split between the twins: Mae (Amandla Stenberg) with Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and Osha (Stenberg) with Qimir (Manny Jacinto) on an unknown planet. But that doesn’t stop the Jedi Order from messing with them. Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) is going to find Sol and help him (despite her hatred of flying), and her actions are a bit suspect.

Reports are stating that James Gunn’s Superman is setting up a beautiful tribute to the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve. According to ComicBook.com, Reeve’s son Will Reeve, who is an ABC correspondent, will have a role in the film as a tribute to the Superman actor.

There’s no word yet on who he’d be playing or what kind of role he will have in the film, but it is making me emotional anyway. I am someone who loves the Christopher Reeve movies very dearly. I used to watch Superman (1978) all the time growing up, and it gifted me a lifelong appreciation for Reeve as an actor.

If you ask the ever faulty Google AI overview that is draining our power, there is one! It came out in 2023. And not a single person saw it. The reality is that there was hope we’d get to see a third Independence Day movie, but the mixed reception of Independence Day: Resurgence threw those plans into the bin.

Ti West’s Maxine Minx trilogy is a horror masterpiece. Starting with the 2022 film X and its followup Pearl that same year, fans have been waiting patiently for the third installment in West’s world. And MaXXXine doesn’t disappoint!

West’s vision for Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) has always been one of determination. Maxine wants to be a star, and she isn’t going to let anyone stop her. She wasn’t going to let Pearl ruin it, and what we see in MaXXXine is a woman who still has her own goals at the forefront of her mind. MaXXXine takes place after the events of X, but far enough removed that Maxine has made a career for herself in adult films.

The president of the United States can run the country starting at the age of 35 years old, so tell me why the two candidates we’re voting for are both … double that. Granted, a 35-year-old probably doesn’t want that responsibility, but we have had a few presidents in their 40s.

The youngest president ever was Theodore Roosevelt, who was 42 when he was sworn in, and then John F. Kennedy became president at 43. Barack Obama was 47, and so on and so forth. Why we’ve now decided that we’re only going to vote for men who could have run for president way back in the ’70s and ’80s, I don’t know.

Kelnacca (played by Joonas Suotamo) is just another death in a long line at the hand of the Stranger, a.k.a. Qimir (Manny Jacinto). He died sitting in his chair and didn’t even get to fight with the rest of the Jedi. J.K. Rowling cannot seem to let anyone support the transgender community without yelling at them. Maybe she should leave her little castle and touch grass, because yelling at someone who did not even mention her when talking is going to a whole new extreme for her.

This time, her anger is at David Tennant. The Doctor Who actor, who had a small role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was at the British LGBT Awards when he told Kemi Badenoch to “shut up” because she was vocal about banning trans women from sports and bathrooms. He then did an interview that night and called those transphobes “a tiny bunch of little whinging f***ers who are on the wrong side of history, and they’ll all go away soon.”

Imagine you are watching The Bear and you see a fork on the floor of the restaurant. Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) clocks it and is confused. I clocked it and yelled, “Oh so that thing from Burnt is real?” And then came even bigger proof that they share the same universe.

In the 2015 film Burnt, Daniel Brühl’s character explains how you can try to spot a Michelin reviewer. “No one knows who they are. No one. They come. They eat. They go. But they have habits. One orders the tasting menu, the other orders a la carte. Always. They order a half a bottle of wine. They ask for tap water. They are polite. But attention! They may place a fork on the floor to see if you notice,” he said in the film. I really just thought that the fork thing was real. It isn’t. In fact, Michelin experts have been asked about the myth that started because of Burnt.
